Let's Get Started...

Why We Are Different

Most dental offices are very good at delivering what is called reactive treatment. For example: A patient visits a dentist only when he or she is in pain. A toothache or broken tooth can be simple enough to fix, and as time goes by and something else breaks or hurts the new problem is fixed again. This is what I call essential treatment and we always recommend this be the first course of action with all patients.

The problem with this approach is that while it is perfectly acceptable for emergencies and accidents, it overlooks the reasons teeth are breaking or repeatedly getting cavities. And as teeth age, the break-and-fix cycle only accelerates.

Since teeth do not heal or regenerate, using a reactive approach unfortunately means that there will come a time when teeth are lost. Most adults nowadays will not like this outcome. In fact most patients think they have not been cared for properly if now they have to lose a tooth. However, using the reactive treatment method - "If it's not broke don't fix it!" - will lead to the exact result of losing teeth.

What We Do: Listen
At our exam appointment first and foremost we listen to you, the patient. I truly believe people know their mouths and know when something is not right. And too many dentists ignore this fact.

My Methodology: It's All Connected
I believe our mouths and bodies work together as a beautifully connected system. If you ignore this fact and just fix one problem after another eventually you get a system failure leading to a lost tooth.

What this means: Be PROACTIVE!
All of the dental problems that we see like decay, infections, TMJ, crowded teeth, gum disease, worn and breaking teeth - they all have a root cause that can be traced back to system or behavioral problems that must be addressed. For example: some of the root causes in dental problems are a poor diet, breathing problems, medications and sleep apnea. So to "Be Proactive" is to look at the entire person to see why they are suffering from the dental problems they are having and determine what is causing them. This way not only can we repair any damage we also identify the cause so we can prevent it from happening again. In other words if your house is being destroyed by termites and you only call a carpenter the underlying problem is only going to return.

In conclusion after your initial exam I will assemble a Dental Health Plan for you that will include:

  1. Essential Treatment: Removing pain, decay and infections. Basically, the minimum requirements for sound dental health.
  2. Proactive Treatment:Restoring weak, broken, and missing teeth. This level of treatment you may elect to postpone or treat when you are ready. A proactive approach helps us identify the systems and influences that are creating any cycles of dental breakdown. Fix problems early before they expand into other areas and risks. This includes evaluating diet (this has a huge influence), teeth grinding, medications, poor sleep habits, posture, headaches and more to create a plan that wiil help stop the breakdown and repair cycle. Having a healthy mouth is directly linked to your overall general health.
  3. Elective Treatment: Creating a beautiful natural looking smile! If you are interested in this type of treatment just ask at your appointment and I will go over the possibilities at your request. b This includes: whitening, veneers, bonding, natural crowns all the way to Full Mouth Rejuvenation.
