Some people may not be good candidates for implants for the following reasons:

  • The patient is too young. Their jawbones aren’t completely developed
  • Pregnant women
  • Heavy smokers mean unhealthy teeth and gums
  • Alcohol or substance abusers
  • Depending on the severity, patients with systemic or chronic diseases:
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Connect-tissue diseases
  • Hemophilia
  • Other autoimmune deficiencies
  • Immune system problems due to steroid or other prescription drug use
  • Patients who severely grind or clench their teeth
