What are Dental Implants?
Dental Implants are artificial teeth with artificial anchors that act as roots to bind them in place. Implants can replace a single tooth or many teeth, taking the place of dentures. The artificial root is a small cylinder of titanium that fuses with the bone of your jaw. A crown, not unlike that placed over decayed teeth, attaches to the root.

Who can get implants?
A person with missing teeth due to injury or disease but whose jaw has not suffered deterioration and has sufficient bone material to support the implant.

Will I be able to use my implanted teeth like normal teeth?
The point of implants, what makes them superior to dentures or bridges, is that they function (and look) completely like normal teeth.

Are there any more benefits over dentures?
There are many more benefits of implants over dentures. They can replace only one tooth or a whole mouthful. They keep your other teeth in place. They also won't cause gum irritation by slipping as dentures can. They are also far more permanent.

What is the process of getting dental implants?
There are three steps in getting your implants.

• First, the artificial roots are surgically implanted into the jawbone under the gums. Each tooth to be replaced requires a separate root. Once all the roots are installed, the gums are stitched together to heal.
• Then your gums have to heal for three to six months. During this time, the bone grows in around the implant until they are fused together, a process called osseointegration.
• Once your implants are fully integrated into your jawbone, the crowns, or false teeth, will be attached.

How long will my implants last?
As with any dental treatment, the answer to this depends on how well you care for your teeth, as new decay from your remaining teeth can endanger your jawbone and threaten your implants. However, the titanium root and porcelain crown are space-age materials, and with proper care they will outlast us all.
